79 strains obtained after growth on Iron Agar (OXOID) and isolated from skin and muscle of gilthead seabreams, belonging to three farms in Tyrrhenian Sea, were identified by sequencing 16S rDNA region. In the first farm (23 strains) the main bacteria were Citrobacter freundii (8 strains), Proteus mirabilis (5 strains) and Pseudomonas spp (6 strains); Ocrhrobactrum grignonense e Pseudochrobactrum asaccharolyticum were also found. In the second farm (22 strains) the prevailing bacteria were Pseudomonas (16 strains), with six species, and Shewanellae, almost exclusively S. putrefaciens (5 strains). In the third farm (34 strains) the prevalent bacteria were Shewanellae, particularly S. putrefaciens and S. baltica (9 and 7 strains respectively), Pseudomonas (8 strain) with six species (mainly P. putida and P. psychrophila)..From gilthead seabream’s muscle packed in modified atmosphere S. baltica (14 strains), S. putrefaciens (7 strains), Pseudomonas spp (5 strains) were mainly identified. The wide prevalence of species known as responsible of fish spoilage (S. putrefaciens and S. baltica) and of many species of Pseudomonas was confirmed; among Pseudomonas, P. salomonii, P. psychrophila, P. proteolytica are to be underlined because unusual.
