Les imaginaires linguistiques au Québec : à la recherche de la liberté?

Abstract

Dans cette contribution, on se propose de décrire les imaginaires linguistiques qui circulent dans l’espace québécois et de réfléchir à la manière dont ils influencent les dynamiques linguistiques. L’étude des réponses à un questionnaire proposé par Radio Canada permet d’analyser l’activité métalinguistique des locuteurs québécois et de relever la coprésence de dynamiques contradictoires : à un mouvement centripète qui prône la prise de distance par rapport au français de France au nom de la valeur identitaire du français québécois se juxtapose une tension centrifuge visant à l’alignement avec le français de France. Cependant, ces deux positionnements trouvent un point de contact au sujet de la qualité de la langue qui doit être améliorée.
