Abstract

Safeguarding procedures provide a framework that enables nurses to identify failings in care, and to ensure appropriate action is taken. Lynne Phair and Hazel Heath explain why it is essential for nurses to understand neglect and how it should be tackled. They argue that compassion for, and engagement with, vulnerable patients is the bedrock of good nursing.
