Il fansubbing e le motivazioni della peer production

Abstract

Le industrie creative novecentesche hanno applicato un modello industriale alla produzione di cultura, a causa dei vincoli derivati dalla necessità di veicolare i contenuti attraverso supporti fisici. L’avvento dei personal computer e della rete Internet ha ridotto il capitale fisico necessario alla produzione e distribuzione di conoscenza. Le tecnologie digitali hanno dunque favorito lo sviluppo di modelli produttivi decentralizzati alternativi al mercato, ovvero forme di commons-based peer production autoorganizzate, basate sulla partecipazione volontaria e sulla condivisione delle risorse . I singoli individui, per rispondere ad esigenze personali non soddisfatte dal mercato, sviluppano nuovi prodotti o modificano quelli esistenti dando vita a forme di “innovazione generata dagli utenti” (use-centric innovation) . In alcuni casi possono emergere “comunità d’innovazione” come le culture hacker, i programmatori di software libero e i partecipanti al progetto Wikipedia. Anche nel settore dell’intrattenimento stanno emergendo forme di innovazione user-centric a partire dalle attività di fan di videogiochi e di produzioni audiovisive che modificano i contenuti prodotti professionalmente creando “opere derivate”. In questo articolo analizzerò la pratica della sottotitolazione amatoriale (fansubbing) in relazione alle altre forme di peer production, per descrivere le motivazioni che inducono i consumatori a produrre e innovare il contesto mediale.
