Censimento di antiche azalee sempreverdi (Rhododendron spp.) ai fini della conservazione della biodiversità e della qualificazione della filiera produttiva

Abstract

In Italia le azalee sono state introdotte nella zona del Lago Maggiore durante l’Ottocento ricorrendo a quelle già diffuse in altri Paesi europei. Nel corso degli anni, esse sono state incrociate dai floricoltori del Verbano, dando origine ad un’articolata gamma di cultivar, finora poco indagata e scarsamente utilizzata. La presente ricerca riguarda lo studio, la salvaguardia e la valorizzazione di questo prezioso germoplasma attraverso il censimento, la caratterizzazione morfo-botanica e molecolare, l’iscrizione all’International Rhododendron Register, l’allestimento di prove di propagazione, la realizzazione di campi catalogo ed un’approfondita ricerca bibliografica. I dati ottenuti costituiscono un data-base a cui poter attingere per qualificare la produzione florovivaistica.
