Abstract

L’interesse sempre più diffuso tra le discipline semiotiche per la dimensione sensibile richiede, in una prospettiva generale, di precisare l’apporto della percezione alla semiosi, per poi esplorare il modo in cui ogni dominio sensibile, con la sua specificità, contribuisce al funzionamento testuale. In una simile prospettiva, la complessità del dispositivo enunciazionale del cinema ne fa un luogo privilegiato particolamente stimolante per verificare la portata semiotica della dimensione sensibile. Tradizionalmente pensato come macchina di visione, il cinema sfrutta, come ormai acclarato, un regime specificamente audiovisivo, dove l’udibile si affianca e interferisce a pari livello con il visibile. Se questo vale in generale, è ancora più significativo nel caso del film oggetto dell’analisi sviluppata in questo saggio, The Conversation di Francis Ford Coppola. Nel capolavoro coppoliano, vera e propria “trappola sonora”, si assiste ad una dominanza inversa: la dimensione udibile è infatti pervasiva, tanto da strutturare anche il visibile. The Conversation si presta dunque a divenire esempio paradigmatico e banco di prova per studiare il modo in cui la percezione uditiva contribuisce al funzionamento testuale.
