We will analyze 'Cartucho' (1931), the first collection of vignettes dedicated to the Mexican Revolution by Nellie Campobello (1900-1986). We will begin by illustrating that her prose is characterized by the suppression of all that is superfluous, and that this stylistic trait is in harmony with the conveyed subordinate perspective: the northern author practices omission with the intention of paying tribute to her characters, who resemble each other due to their slender constitution, a sign of their poverty. We will continue to demonstrate that her use of ellipsis and parataxis is related to her profound knowledge of corridos, ballads, and the Old Testament. Lastly, we will argue that this style also makes her an important precursor to Rulfo, who, like her, sought to maximize the intensity of words and evoke the simple speech of the people through omission. It has been abundantly demonstrated for Rulfo that the supposed popular authenticity is the effect produced by meticulous stylistic work. Similarly, Campobello recreates the way of being and speaking in her inner region thanks to great formal discipline
