PLAGAS Y ENFERMEDADES FORESTALES EN COSTA RICA

Abstract

Los procesos de reforestación en Costa Rica incentivados por el Estado, se inician a partir de 1970. Ello indica, que el país ya cuenta con más de 35 años de experiencias en silvicultura de plantaciones. Estas plantaciones y los viveros forestales, han sufrido problemas con diferentes niveles de intensidad, relacionados con plagas y enfermedades. En 1984 se creó en Costa Rica el Programa Interinstitucional de Protección Forestal (PIPROF),como un esfuerzo conjunto de la Universidad Nacional (UNA), el Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (ITCR) y la Dirección General Forestal (DGF) (actualmente Ministerio de Ambiente y Energía – MINAE–). Desde entonces, en el ITCR, específicamente en el Laboratorio de Protección Forestal de la Escuela de Ingeniería Forestal, se crea una base de datos acerca de plagas y enfermedades forestales. En esta base se introducen los datos generados en proyectos de investigación, trabajos de grado y postgrado de estudiantes, de la asistencia técnica que dicho laboratorio brinda a todo el país e información bibliográfica disponible.
