
La madera de melina (Gmelina arborea (Roxb)) es considerada de lento secado y con elevadas variaciones del contenido de humedad final. Esto es producido por gradientes significativos entre la humedad final superficial y la humedad interna, dando origen a la presencia de zonas con altos contenidos de humedad, conocidos popularmente como “bolsas de humedad”. Se detallan aspectos propios de la madera de esta especie que influyen en el secado y se indican algunas recomendaciones para disminuir estos efectos durante de proceso de secado.
