Almacenamiento de semillas de cuatro especies forestales de uso múltiple

Abstract

Se evaluó el efecto de la temperatura y del tiempo de almacenamiento sobre la capacidad germinativa de cuatro especies forestales de uso múltiple: Tubús (Montanoa dumicola), casuarina (Casuarina equisetifolia), madero negro (Gliricidia sepium) y manzana rosa (Syzygium jambos). Las semillas se almacenaron durante seis meses a 5ºC, 15ºC y a temperatura ambiente. Se evaluó el porcentaje de plántulas normales y la longitud de las plántulas. Se determinó que las semillas de tubús, casuarina y en menor grado las de madero negro se pueden conservar por seis meses o más en las tres temperaturas probadas, pues no se observaron mermas notables en su germinación. Sin embargo, la longitud de las plántulas mostró un descenso paulatino del vigor conforme transcurrió el tiempo de almacenamiento. Por el contrario, la semilla de manzana rosa experimentó una considerable merma en la germinación, en especial a temperatura ambiente pues a los 45 días solo se obtuvo un 20% de plántulas normales, mientras que a los 90 días ninguna semilla germinó. En un segundo experimento, se evaluó el almacenamiento de semillas de manzana rosa empacadas con carbón vegetal y arena a 5, 10 y 15ºC, y de semillas de madero negro con 8, 10 y 12% de contenido de humedad. En manzana rosa no hubo efecto de la temperatura de almacenamiento, aunque la semilla conservó mejor su calidad cuando se mezcló con carbón vegetal o con arena. En madero negro, la semilla más seca mantuvo la germinación más alta.
