Choque y Fragmentación por Choque en Olivino Peridoto

Abstract

[Abstract] The presence of olivine in meteorites or in the upper mantle of rocky planets exposes it to extreme conditions of pressure and temperature. Reproducing these conditions in the laboratory provides valuable insights into the processes that affect this mineral. This study investigates the effects of pressure on olivine peridotite using through a controlled impact experiment using a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB). Three samples were analysed before and after impact using microcomputed tomography, revealing the formation of a fracture network along the entire sample, with continuous diagonal zones of higher density, was observed. Based on the data obtained, key mechanical parameters such as failure stress (120 MPa), Young's modulus (35 GPa), and strain rate (300 s⁻¹), were calculated. These values were compared with those reported in the literature and were found to be consistent with previous studies.
