Abstract

[Abstract] Zantedeschia aethiopica (L.) Spreng, although not included in the Spanish Catalogue of Invasive Alien Species, shows an invasive behavior in Galicia, especially on the island of Sálvora (Pontevedra). In this work, the flowering, fruit production and potential pollinator visitors of the species were studied by means of dish traps, as well as the arthropods present in the spathes of five populations located in the provinces of A Coruña and Pontevedra. The results show that this species can flower abundantly under high rainfall conditions. In addition, the protection of the spathes to prevent access by potential pollinators greatly reduces fruit production, which is high in the populations studied, highlighting the importance of entomophilous pollination. The presence of arthropods in the spathes, mainly Diptera and Coleoptera, and the hypothesis of thermal rewards are consistent with a generalist pollination strategy, which is frequent in the Araceae family.
