Abstract

{Abstract] Cytogenetics is the study of the morphology, the structure and the functioning of chromosomes. In the course of slightly more than 100 years, it has been born and developed into one of the most versatile tools in the field of genomics, thanks to the perfectioning of continuously more selective and refined techniques. In this project, metaphase chromosomes of several species have been obtained: Palaemon elegans, Mytilus galloprovincialis, Lens culinaris, Allium cepa, Canis familiaris and Homo sapiens. Afterwards, G banding was carried out on H. sapiens chromosomes. Due to the high variety of species, specific protocols of chromosome obtention were used in each case. The results of this project were then contrasted with existing literature about each of the selected species.
