Abstract

[Abstract] Among the contemporary novelists who address the subject of the Civil War and Franco's regime is Almudena Grandes with her “Episodios de una Guerra Interminable” (Episodes of an Endless War). In the second novel of the series, “El lector de Julio Verne” (2012), Grandes denounces the horrors of the post-war period from the perspective of a child, within the sub-genre of the historical novel and in defence of historical memory, a political and literary theme that has been on the rise in recent decades. This work seeks to analyse the historical basis, or not, in the construction of the characters and events narrated around the antifrancoist guerrilla of the maquis, to analyse how the author rewrites official history in literature and how she dignifies the vanquished through an exercise in post-memory in which reality and fiction converge.
