Abstract

[Resumen] El interés del sector marítimo en la tecnología del ciclo orgánico de Rankine (ORC) para el aprovechamiento del calor residual en buques es cada vez mayor debido al potencial de estos ciclos para aumentar la eficiencia de los buques y reducir sus emisiones. A pesar de que los ORC se han instalado desde hace años en el ámbito terrestre, la implementación de esta tecnología a bordo de los buques es reciente. En este estudio se comprueba la viabilidad económica de la instalación de dos tipos de ORC, uno subcrítico y otro transcrítico, en un buque portacontenedores. En primer lugar, se realiza la simulación de los ciclos propuestos y se validan los modelos termodinámicos elaborados. A continuación, se dimensionan los intercambiadores de calor y se efectúan las simulaciones de los ciclos con los intercambiadores dimensionados. Por último, se evalúa el coste de proyecto y periodo de amortización para cada uno de los ciclos. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que se puede obtener rentabilidad a medio y largo plazo y reducir el consumo de combustible de los motores auxiliares del buque entre el 60 % y 80 % aproximadamente.

[Resumo] O interés do sector marítimo na tecnoloxía do ciclo orgánico de Rankine (ORC) para o aproveitamento de calor residual nos buques é cada vez maior debido o potencial de estes ciclos para aumentar a eficiencia dos buques e reducir as súas emisión. A pesar de que os ORC instálanse utilízanse xa hai anos no ámbito terrestre, a implementación desta tecnoloxía a bordo dos buques é recente. Neste estudo e compróbase a viabilidade económica da instalación de dous tipos de ORC, un subcrítico e outro transcrítico. En primeiro lugar realízase a simulación dos ciclos propostos e valídanse os modelos termodinámicos elaborados, a continuación dimensiónanse os intercambiadores de calor dos ciclos. Por último, efectúase a simulación de deseño dos ciclos cos intercambiadores dimensionados, o estudo económico do coste de proxecto e periodo de amortización. Os resultados obtidos mostran que se pode obter rentabilidade a medio e longo prazo e xerar una reducción de consumo de combustible dos os motores auxiliares de entre o 60 % e 80 % aproximadamente.

[Abstract] The interest of the maritime sector in organic Rankine cycle (ORC) technology for the use of waste heat in ships is increasing due to the potential of these cycles to improve the efficiency of ships and reduce their emissions. Althought the ORCs have been installed on land for years, the implementation of this technology on board ships is recent. This study verifies the economic feasibility of installing two types of ORC, one subcritical and one transcritical. First, the proposed cycles are simulated and the thermodynamic models produced are verified; then the heat exchangers of the cycles are dimensioned. Finally, the design simulation of the cycles with the dimensioned heat Exchangers, the economic study on their cost and amortization period are carried out. The results obtained show that profitability can be achieved in the medium and long-term and it is posible to reduce the fuel consumption of the auxiliary engines of the ship by between approximately 60 % and 80 %.
