Abstract

[Resumen] Introducción: en el presente trabajo se procedió al estudio académico de los envenenamientos, heridas y traumatismos causados por fauna acuática en el Atlántico Norte por no existir precedentes de trabajos iguales o similares. Objetivo: determinar el conocimiento actual de los envenenamientos, heridas y traumatismos causados por fauna acuática en el Atlántico Norte. Desarrollo: en el Atlántico Norte pueden tener lugar envenenamientos por animales vertebrados e invertebrados. Los vertebrados son peces y los invertebrados poliquetos, equinodermos, moluscos, cnidarios y esponjas. Conclusiones: las agresiones graves son excepcionales. La actividad preventiva es la medida más eficaz contra este tipo de lesiones. Todas las toxinas inoculadas por peces son termolábiles. Las manifestaciones clínicas de los gusanos poliquetos son dermatológicas. En las lesiones causadas por erizos de mar hay que desprender las púas adheridas a la piel utilizando unas pinzas, aplicar ácido acético al 5 % y desinfectar. En cuanto a las esponjas, se deben retirar las espículas. Los envenenamientos por conos son muy severos. La severidad de las lesiones cutáneas y envenenamiento de las medusas depende de la especie.

[Resumo] Introdución: no presente traballo procedeuse ao estudo académico dos envelenamentos, feridas e traumatismos causados por fauna acuática no Atlántico Norte por non existir precedentes de traballos iguais ou similares Obxectivo: determinar o coñecemento actual dos envelenamentos, feridas e traumatismos causados por fauna acuática no Atlántico Norte. Desenvolvemento: no Atlántico Norte poden ter lugar envelenamentos por animais vertebrados e invertebrados. Os vertebrados son peixes e os invertebrados poliquetos, equinodermos, moluscos, cnidarios e esponxas. Conclusións: as agresións graves son excepcionais. A actividade preventiva é a medida máis eficaz contra este tipo de lesións. Tódalas toxinas inoculadas por peixes son termolábiles. As manifestacións clínicas dos vermes poliquetos son dermatolóxicas. Nas lesións causadas por ourizos de mar hai que desprender as púas adheridas á pel empregando unhas pinzas, aplicar ácido acético ao 5 % e desinfectar. En canto ás esponxas, débense retirar as espículas. Os envelenamentos por conos son moi severos. A severidade das lesións cutáneas e envelenamentos das medusas depende da especie.

[Abstract] Introduction: in the present work we proceed to the academic study of the poisonings, wounds and traumas caused by aquatic fauna in the North Atlantic because there are no precedents for the same or similar works. Objective: determine current knowledge of aquatic fauna poisoning, injury and trauma in the North Atlantic. Development: vertebrate and invertebrate animal poisonings can occur in the North Atlantic. Vertebrates are fish and invertebrates are polychaetes, echinoderms, mollusks, cnidarians, and sponges. Conclusions: serious assaults are exceptional. Preventive activity is the most effective measure against this type of injury. All toxins inoculated by fish are heat labile. The clinical manifestations of polychaete worms are dermatological. In injuries caused by sea urchins, the barbs attached to the skin must be detached using tweezers, apply 5% acetic acid and disinfect. As for the sponges, the spicules must be removed. Cone poisonings are very severe. The severity of jellyfish skin lesions and poisoning depends on the species.
