Abstract

[Abstract]: The optic tectum is a structure present on the dorsal surface of the midbrain, whose function is the location of a stimulus in space, therefore it constitutes the main visual center. Through the study of the calcium-binding proteins "EFhand" (calretinin, calbindin and parvalbumin) by immunohistochemical techniques (enzymatic and fluorochromatic), this project aims to characterize this structure of interest. The entire process will be done in the adult zebrafish, Danio rerio, which belongs to the cyprinid family and which has become the model organism par excellence in fields such as neuropharmacology. In addition, it should be noted that by characterizing this brain structure, it is intended to facilitate the investigation of anomalies in subsequent studies in order to know the pathologies that may affect the nervous system.
