[Abstract] OBJECTIVE The main objective of this review is to determine the efficacy of therapeutic exercise applied in adults with ankylosing spondylitis. METHODS A bibliographic review is made in the PubMed, PEDro, Cochrane Library, Scopus and Web of Science databases during the period from March to August 2019. As inclusion criteria were selected those scientific articles published in the last 5 years, articles in which the participants were adults (18 years or more), articles about the therapeutic exercise used in physiotherapy for ankylosing spondylitis and articles published in English and Spanish. We also included randomized clinical trials and articles in which the participants were taking or had taken drugs before the study. RESULTS After the application of the established selection criteria, 8 randomized clinical trials were included in the present review, of which 2 were trained in inspiratory musculature; 2, in different therapeutic methods, and the remaining 4, in aerobic training, home and supervised training based on flexibility, exercises with a Swiss ball and exergames respectively. CONCLUSIONS Current scientific literature shows that therapeutic exercise is effective in adults suffering from ankylosing spondylitis, mainly producing an improvement in aerobic capacity and functionality
