Principales tratamientos conservadores de la onicocriptosis

Abstract

[Abstract] Introduction: onychocryptosis is a relatively common podiatric condition of the nail plate, which causes pain and / or inflammation of the fold or lateral folds of the nail, in which the distal end of this one, interacts abnormally with the periungueal tissues. Many factors can contribute to the onset and development of onychocryptosis (external or extrinsic factors and internal or intrinsic factors). The ingrow toenail can be classified into four stages, stage 1, which includes erythema and mild edema, stage 2 with findings of infection, the stage 3 with severe worsening of stage 2 symptoms and stage 4 with chronic and severe nail deformity. Objective: The objective of this bibliographic review will be to search for the main conservative treatments of onicocriptosis aimed at responding which are the ones currently used and which one of them is more effective. Methodology: to carry out this study, a bibliographic search was carried out in multiple databases such as pubmed or dialnet, focusing on different articles that included journal articles, clinical cases, etc. Results: A multitude of conservative treatments have been obtained from the search. Each of them has then been analyzed to assess its effectiveness. Discussion: Analyzing each conservative technique individually, we can affirm that none of them is 100% effective, since they all have long-term recurrence rates. Conclusions: According to the articles that have analyzed the most effective conservative treatment in the short term would be metallic ortonixia, since this is effective in a short period of treatment and also the recurrence rate is very low compared to other conservative treatments.
