Abstract

[Abstract] Maggot therapy is an ancient technique that allows applying maggots in chronic wounds. The speed and efficiency to achieve a favorable outcome of the injury, along with nonexistent damage in healthy tissue, causing during tissue repair have made maggot therapy or biosurgery a viable alternative for wound healing chronic (vascular ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers , burns , osteomyelitis , tumors...) The aim of this study is to evaluate and reflect, based on current scientific evidence, the benefits of the use of this therapy for both the patient and the health system.
