Abstract

[Abstract] The Metabolic Syndrome has been defined by different international groups of experts along the latest years. These organizations present some discrepancies when establishing common diagnosis guidelines, thus significantly complicating good clinical practice. Although it is not possible to establish a direct causality relationship, insulin resistance has been suggested as the main etiologic agent and a type II Diabetes Mellitus could emerge as a consecuence. This consideration, in addition to all of the factors already mentioned and their big impact, alarmingly increases the chances of an emergent cardiovascular disorder which is currently the principal death cause in Europe. Establishing promotion and prevention strategies driven towards the reduction of this quandary becomes an essential priority for the nursing consultation office. Improving the quality of everyday life standards for these patients prevails as the imperative goal the Primary Atention field is aiming for.
