Abstract

[Abstract] Phytophthora capsici is a pathogen of great plasticity, with several hosts. One of the is bean, a widely grown and economically important plant. Therefore, it is necessary to study the diseases of bean to control them. The objectives of this study are to test whether exogenous application of benzylaminopurine to the leaves of bean confers resistance against to P. capsici, and if this treatment causes variations in the levels of phenols, a group of compounds related to defensive response. The data obtained showed a decrease in the diseased area of plants that were induced with benzylaminopurine, that was more noticeable at the local level than the systemic level. On the other hand, the analysis of phenolic compounds revealed a decrease in the plants treated with benzylaminopurine, compared to non-induced plants. Taking into account these data, it is concluded that benzylaminopurine induces local and systemic resistance against infection with Phytophthora capsici.
