Abstract

[Abstract] The hearing loss as a result of the aging process known as presbycusis can generate impacts on the physical, emotional and social level, so consider using headphones, can help improve the quality of life of older people Objective: This study has the general objective to know the adhesion of hearing aid use in elderly people with hearing loss. In addition to identifying potential factors that interfere with the satisfaction of using hearing aids for older people with hearing loss own age, ie presbycusis. Methods: There has been a literature search in electronic databases PubMed and Scopus. The years of research that were selected were from 2000 through 2014, inclusive. Also used as exclusion criteria language, selecting only the items in Spanish and English; and originality excluding thesis, opinion. Results and discussion: There is broad consensus among the reviewed when considering that older people do not get the direct benefits they can offer using headphones, either by psychosocial factors or environmental factors that hinder their use studies. Conclusions: the scientific evidence neither is insufficient to accurately determine the minimum degree of hearing loss is associated with benefit from hearing aids, which becomes a limitation nor are enough studies to prove the non-adherence to the use of hearing aids and therefore conclude about the benefits generated by the use of these devices.
