Tratamiento conservador de la Onicocriptosis

Abstract

STRUCTURED SUMMARY Aim: Onychocryptosis is one of the most frequent ungual pathological conditions in chiropody clinics. This illness is usually associated with pain and/or inflammation and can develop into infection. The different available clinical techniques and their results must be known by any professional in order to be able to determine the right treatment. The following bibliography review entails knowing and describing the different conservative treatment strategies published in scientific literature to date when faced with Onychocryptosis as well as analysing the cases for which this type of treatment is effective. Methodology: Evaluation of the literature in relation to this subject is done by means of systematic review, following the steps of evidence-based medicine, of the different chiropody magazines available in the university library of Patín, in Ferrol, in addition to some of the main health databases like Dialnet, Pubmed, Biblioteca Cochrane Plus and Lilacs. Results: Following the systematic review given, and after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of nine articles dealing with the research question are selected. Conclusion: Having analysed all the results, we can state that there are multiple conservative treatment techniques for Onychocryptosis and that a lot of authors agree on the most used ones. As far as their effectiveness is concerned, we have not managed to find many studies evaluating the different conservative approaches individually but can confirm that these are not a hundred per cent effective, as reflected in some of the publications mentioned, given a proven small recurring rate of the condition after their use.
