Abstract

[Abstract]This paper analyzes the development of the migratory movement because of which, since 2004, thousands of Senegalese, began arriving in the Canary Islands aboard boats. It also aims to find the political, social and economic causes behind this migration and find out how exactly these canoes, traditionally used in inshore fishing became passenger boats. Passengers that were moved across the Atlantic, from the West Africa coast to the gateway to Europe. As well, this paper pretends to know which were the main agents involved in shaping these new migration networks arising from the allocation of a new use by fishermen in Senegal, to the sea routes that they used to follow when they sailed in search of fish.
