Abstract

In the framework of the Momar project, the activity concerning satellite monitoring concerned the developement of a semioperational system of water quality monitoring of the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Seas in front of Tuscany. The system is based on the concentrations of phytoplankton biomass, estimated by Chlorophyll (Chl), Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) and Non-Algal Particulate Matter (NAP). In particular, satellite Chl estimation through the application of different algorithms to MODIS images was evaluated. This study made allowed to define some preliminary guidelines that will be useful for operational monitoring of the studied area.
