Abstract

Lo scopo di questo contributo è quello di presentare i risultati di una prima valutazione della possibilità di coltivazione di A. cruentus e A. hypocondriacus in Italia Centrale. Questa attività rientra in un progetto più ampio che prevede, oltre alla valutazione di genotipi di diversa provenienza, anche la caratterizzazione dell’olio e di sostanze funzionali. I risultati di questa prima prova di coltivazione in Italia Centrale confermano quanto emerso in sperimentazioni condotte in Meridione sulla migliore adattabilità di A. cruentus ai nostri ambienti ai fini della produzione di seme. In particolare, nell’ambito delle provenienze delle accessioni messe in prova, quelle provenienti dal Messico sembrano più adattabili. Seppure nei limiti delle prove parcellari infatti, quest’ultime si sono espresse con rese molto elevate superando anche le 5 t ha-1 e con buoni contenuti sia di proteine che di lipidi. L’amaranto dunque, si conferma come una potenziale specie a ciclo primaverile-estivo per i nostri ambienti soprattutto là dove, in questo periodo, si temono fenomeni di siccità per altre colture.
