We review and compare three different models for the description of multi-band transport of charge carriers in semiconductors. They are based, respectively, 1) on the Floquet decomposition of the state space, 2) on the Wannier-Slater definition of envelope functions, 3) on the Kane model. The different mathematical and physical meaning of these models is discussed and compared.
