Austropotamobius torrentium is listed under the Annex II of the EU Habitats Directive as a species requiring special conservation measures (Souty-Grosset et al. 2006). It is also listed on the German Red List (RL3, Appendix 1), and within a number of other countries as threatened (Souty-Grosset et al. 2006). This species is also listed under Appendix III of the Bern Convention. Rates of population decline are needed through long-term population monitoring.
