Abstract

Almeno quattro sono le specie di Lophodermium identificate e descritte sugli aghi di Pinus spp., un tempo raggruppate tutte sotto l'unica denominazione di L. pinastri (Schrad. ex Hook) Chev. (Jones, 1935) ed oggi riconosciute come specie distinte, in base a vari caratteri tra i quali il diverso grado di patogenicità. Mentre L. pinastri, L. conigenum Hilitzer e L. pini-excelsae Ahamad sono da considerarsi deboli parassiti od addirittura saprofiti. L. seditiosum Minter, Stanley e Millar è una specie talora seriamente patogena. L'arrossamento degli aghi di Pinus spp. da L. seditiosum è una patologia della chioma largamente diffusa in tutte le aree delle regioni temperate dove l'ospite è presente, con danni sia a giovani piantine in vivaio che a piantagioni adulte, in dipendenza dell'andamento stagionale.Gli isolati di Lophodermium identificati in Italia rispettano le chiavi tassonomiche indicate da Minter et al. (1987) per questi funghi. Il ciclo biologico del fungo sembra invece essere diverso, rispetto a quello segnalato in regioni dell' Europa centro-settentrionale
