Abstract

La definizione di Potere è da sempre problematica e controversa nel dibattito politico, giuridico e sociologico come del resto in quello filosofico nel quale si rintraccia una sua prima caratterizzazione già nel IV secolo a.C., negli scritti di Platone. Nel dialogo Sofista, infatti, Platone descrive il Potere come «la definizione dell’essere», elemento distintivo dell’esistenza reale intesa come la capacità di in- fluenzare o di essere influenzati (Sofista, 247e). Non a caso, il Potere del principe, secondo Machiavelli, risiede nell’incerto equilibrio tra le qualità dello stesso, i “grandi” e il popolo, che il principe deve persuadere (Il Principe, cap. VI). Anche se una visione classica del Potere implica forme di coercizione e di controllo per cui il Potere esercita sanzioni contro l’opposizione politica, molti autori sottolineano il carattere ambiguo del rapporto tra Potere e persone, generalmente basato su forme di consenso; a questo proposito, basti pensare al ruolo assegnato ai media nella società attuale da CHOMSKY e HERMAN (2014). La realtà è, non a caso, reinterpretata dall’ermeneutica del Novecento come un processo discorsivo e simbolico determinato dal P attraverso modi di rappresentazione e pratiche di regolamentazione in grado di originare identità coerenti.
