Con metodo e con rigore. Scritti di bibliografia e biblioteconomia di Diego Maltese

Abstract

Reading Diego Maltese's writings years after their publication arouses a reaction of surprise. The relevance of a thought that is always profound, measured, seductive, modern and well-argued is striking: a lesson in method, analysis, rigor, punctuality. Maltese laid the foundations of contemporary Italian cataloging, attributing to it a central role in the theoretical and applicative fields. He had a systemic vision of the library and made a significant contribution to the debate in the 1970s and 1980s regarding the role of the Central National Library of Florence as a national book archive. He considers the Italian National Bibliography as the heart of the national bibliographic services as well as a local element of universal bibliographic control, and has punctually analyzed the relationships between the Italian bibliographic institutions and the National Library Service (SBN). The 159 essays collected by Mauro Guerrini, with the assistance of Patrizia Calò, are arranged in twelve thematic sections, preceded by introductory notes by Laura Ballestra, Pino Buizza, Attilio Mauro Caproni, Giuliano Genetasio, Anna Lucarelli, Elisabetta Sciarra, Tiziana Stagi; followed by the "Bibliography of the texts cited by Diego Maltese", the "Bibliography of the writings of Diego Maltese" and his "Biographical note", the "Index of subjects" edited by Elisabetta Viti and "Indexes of names, acronyms and acronyms" edited by Patrizia Calò.
