Abstract

L'articolo indaga la rete di committenze e altari posseduta nella Siena della seconda metà del Quattrocento dalla nobile famiglia Cerretani, fornendo importanti novità quanto alla pala destinata alla chiesa dell'ormai diruto Castello di Cerreto Ciampoli (identificata nella Natività di Pietro Orioli oggi alla National Gallery di Londra) e al significato della Lavanda dei piedi dipinta nel 1489 da Pietro Orioli per il Battistero di Siena (nella committenza del quale ebbe a giocare un ruolo eminente anche Alberto Aringhieri, allora operaio della Cattedrale).
