Abstract

The work of the Environmental restoration laboratory is divided into urban restoration, park and garden restoration and safeguarding and enhancing landscape. Particular attention has been placed on urban environments expressing a synergy between man and nature. Historical built-up areas and the system of public and private open spaces (squares, treets, gardens and parks) have been the focus of analytical-diagnostics and project elaboration both on an urban as well as on an architectural level. The system of squares reated by the presence of important monastery complexes (S. M. Novella, S. Frediano, Santo Spirito, Carmine, S. M. degli Angeli), the urban walls and the green spaces adjacent o them, private historical gardens also represent other cases. Great attention has been paid to walls and green spaces with the scope of developing conservation and innovation projects.
