L'apocalisse e la peste dei gay: l'AIDS come metanarrativa nella letteratura anglo-americana

Abstract

Attraverso le figure dei quattro cavalieri dell'Apocalisse (peste, guerra, fame, morte), il testo evidenzia le metafore legate all'Aids in quanto fenomeno di costruzione sociale, da quella di "peste dei gay" a quella di olocausto, per approdare, appunto, all'Apocalisse. L'Apocalisse e la peste dei gay ripercorre, fin dai primi anni dell'epidemia, le tappe fondamentali dell'attivismo gay a opera di movimenti di aggregazione di rilevanza globale quali ACT UP. Ma soprattutto pone l'accento sulle rappresentazioni della malattia nella letteratura angloamericana, attraverso una sezione antologica di alcune opere significative pubblicate nell'arco di un ventennio, tra cui "The Gifts of the Body" di Rebecca Brown, al quale è dedicata la sezione conclusiva del lavoro. L'autore rende partecipi di uno dei momenti più importanti nel processo di costruzione dell'identità gay, servendosi di uno strumento - la letteratura dell'Aids - che valorizza la specificità del contesto anglo-americano.
