Arachide (Arachis hypopaea)

Abstract

Le arachidi appartengono all’ordine delle Fabales, famiglia delle Fabacee, sottofamiglia delle Faboideae, genere Arachis. La specie Arachis hypogaea è una coltura annuale il cui nome botanico deriva del greco, dove “Arachis” significa legume e “hypogaea” sotto terra. L’arachide attualmente addomesticata e coltivata è geneticamente molto simile ad una specie originaria del nord-ovest dell’Argentina (Arachis monticola) che si differenzia per legumi più piccoli e carpofori molto lunghi. Inoltre, parte della base genetica è stata ereditata anche dall’ibridazione tra linee selvatiche di A. cardenasii e A. batizocoi, entrambe originarie della Bolivia. L’arachide (Arachis hypogaea L., 1753) è originaria del Centro-Sud America e dei Paesi Caraibici e nel XVI secolo si è diffusa passando dal Brasile all’Africa e, successivamente, all’India. Attualmente è coltivata in Paesi tropicali, subtropicali e temperati caldi compresi tra i paralleli 40°S e 40°N. È una leguminosa a ciclo annuale con habitus di crescita indeterminato che si distingue dalle altre per la formazione e la maturazione dei frutti nel terreno. Generalmente la coltura compie un solo ciclo l’anno, ma in alcuni Paesi (es.: Brasile) se ne possono completare anche due.
