Cibo e monachesimo

Abstract

We owe to the creativity of the nuns and monks some of the main delicacies of the modern era. The garden of herbs and medicinal plants has always characterized monasteries and convents, like the church and the library. The contemporary emphasis on a cuisine based on naturalness, on the freshness of the products, on preparations able to find the right balance between the needs of the body and the spirit has an ancient history behind it: that of the canteens of convents and monasteries. Food unites table culture and Christian spirituality: the Eucharist liturgy itself is a banquet.
