Abstract

Smarrita ormai l’immagine compiuta di sé, la citta,̀ oggi, è una sorta di fenomeno transitorio, in continuo mutamento. In occasione del progetto dei Playgrounds per la citt̀à di Amsterdam (1947- 1978) A. Van Eyck introduce il concetto di polycentric net relativo ad un’idea di citta infinitamente estendibile e con una distribuzione non gerarchica degli spazi, che rivela lo spostamento di attenzione da parte di A. Van Eỳck da un’idea di centro inteso come uno spazio pubblico monumentale e retorico ad un’idea di molteplicita di centri che s’identificano còn degli spazi informali capaci di creare, in un determinato luogo, una particolare concentrazione d’intensita (knots of density di K. Lynch). Ognuno di questi luoghi, e quindi ciascun playground, all’interno della rete ha delle relazioni con altri luoghi e questo comporta un nuovo modo d’intendere la centralità che diventa, infatti, un concetto relativo perché centro e periferia si muovono dinamicamente all’interno della rete policentrica. E la forza di questo concetto, oggi, si regge proprio sull’attenzione di A. Van Eyck al progetto degli spazi in-between, al progetto degli spazi vuoti che definiscono la relazione tra edifici vicini.....”non luoghi” che nell’evoluzione del concetto di spazio pubblico sono diventati i luoghi del nostro tempo.
