Abstract

Il libro, in lingua turca, dopo avere esaminato le relazioni tra i rapporti di genere e le dinamiche di potere nell'ambito dell'impero ottomano e dell'Islam sunnita, affronta le loro ripercussioni del processo di modernizzazione istituzionale che a partire dall'Ottocento ha coinvolto la società turco-musulmana. Durante questa lunga modernizzazione, sfociata poi nella costruzione della nazione turca, la cultura maschile e le strutture patriarcali, espressioni privilegiate delle concezioni più intime del potere, sono state sottoposte a forti pressioni per un cambiamento. Hanno subite modifiche, nella forma e nella sostanza, non solo i rapporti tra le istituzioni di governo, la società e le famiglie, ma anche le identità dei generi. Il libro indaga tali cambiamenti attraverso una disamina della letteratura turca moderna, in particolare dei romanzi e dei racconti prodotti tra il 1860 e il 1980. In questa ottica si è tenuto conto delle iniziative politiche, legislative e giuridiche che nello stesso arco di tempo hanno introdotto norme atte a modellare le relazioni di genere, le strutture familiari e le gerarchie sociali.
