Abstract

El hígado es un órgano con una notable capacidad de regeneración que se manifiesta ante cualquier agresión sea ésta de origen tóxico, infeccioso o quirúrgico. La hepatectomía parcial en roedores es un incuestionable modelo para abordar el estudio del proceso regenerativo del hígado. La regeneración comienza con una serie de eventos que conducen al hepatocito a ingresar en la fase G1 del ciclo celular. Estos cambios iniciales incluyen la activación temprana de una serie de genes como c-myc, c-fos, c-jun y el gen odc. Los productos de estos genes son requeridos para la progresión del ciclo celular. odc codifica la enzima ornitina decarboxilasa, la primera de las enzimas de la vía sintética de las poliaminas y la limitante de esta ruta. Las poliaminas aumentan sus niveles durante cualquier proceso proliferativo en cualquier tipo de tejido. Poseen afinidad por moléculas nucleofílicas y posibilitan que aumente la velocidad de síntesis de ácidos nucleicos y proteínas. (...)
