Abstract

En la búsqueda por comprender los procesos de revisibilización indígena, este trabajo se propone abordar, en su especificidad, la reaparición pública del pueblo diaguita en la provincia de Salta. Para alcanzar dicho objetivo, se consideró apropiado el análisis acotado de un caso etnográfico: la comunidad Juan Calchaquí, asentada en los márgenes de la Ciudad de Salta, en Villa Floresta. En la búsqueda de algunas claves que permitan desentramar estas complejas dinámicas públicas de autoreconocimiento, este trabajo, anclando su análisis en la interrelación entre identidad y memoria, apunta a rastrear el modo en que los miembros de esta comunidad diaguita urbana edifican algunas de sus marcas culturales distintivas y las transforman en emblemas de alteridad. Es decir, aquellas prácticas y representaciones nativas que constituyen el corpus de referencia del colectivo, a partir del cual los actores definen su condición de indígenas y, específicamente, su «ser diaguitas». En esa dirección, enfocado en la centralidad del significado y los procesos interpretativos desde el marco de referencia de los actores, se privilegia un enfoque etnográfico
