Lentes de contacto protectoras con recubrimientos antibacterianos

Abstract

El propósito de este trabajo es recubrir unas lentes de contacto postoperatorias protectoras convencionales mediante unos recubrimientos zwitteriónicos que le proporcionarían una actividad antibacteriana. Se tomarán como referencia estudios e investigaciones realizadas anteriormente que estudiaron el mismo tipo de recubrimiento en otros materiales. La finalidad sería utilizar estas lentes de contacto con recubrimiento en vez de las convencionales ya que estas últimas son muy susceptibles a la adherencia y la posterior colonización por diversas especies de bacterias, reduciendo así molestias a los pacientes y gastos económicos para los hospitales al reducir los casos de infecciones. Los resultados indican que el recubrimiento utilizado se adhiere con éxito en las lentes de contacto de methafilcon y que las lentes de contacto tratadas impiden en un 50 % la formación de biofilms por parte de la bacteria Staphylococcus aureus respecto a las lentes de contacto sin tratar.
