Abstract

The European Project Semester is about much more than a period of study, it is an opportunity to explore new surroundings and embrace new cultures, all while studying in a unique environment with a blend of people from diff erent disciplines. Our project, put together with the help of our supervisor Gunther Steenackers fi nds three product developers and one ICT engineer coming together to work on a project for an urban wind turbine. Our Aim is as follows: “We will produce a standard fully functional wind turbine that will act as a basis for further improvements and investigation. The output will be measured and developments will be made to enhance its ability to work effi ciently within a built up domestic area. It will also be produced to be more interesting and readily available for the inhabitants and users of a city environment. To be completed by the 19th June 2013. “ However we hope that our project will become more than just a single physical product. Like many other designers we want to help develop a change of thinking and create new green ideals that communities can help to promote and expand. While creating new and innovative products is one part of the battle, forcing people to open up and embrace new eco technologies is what is really needed to bring on the eco revolution. We hope t o do this by not only be following the classic design process but expanding into the emerging market of service design to develop a concept that will hopefully generate energy effi ciently, promote the use of green energies within the city walls and educate and inspire a community to change there attitudes towards renewable energies.
