Francesc Mitjans: arquitectura moderna y paisaje

Abstract

Althougth, from a typological point of view, Francesc Mitjans has made fundamental contributions when it comes to the urban residence, some of them undeniable landmarks yet, it should also be pointed out the big interest that he caused in another typologies, such is the case of buildings integrated in natural contexts. The Nautical Club in Barcelona (1958), the Llorell Hotel in Tossa de Mar (1958), the Ballena Alegre Camping Site in Viladecans (1960) and the Palma Nova Hotel in Palma de Mallorca (1961), just to mention four works, are examples of solutions as intensive as diverse, which reveal the values of the best modern architecture conceived from the formal coherence and with a clear attention to the relationship between the building and the environment, the landscape, the climate, the sun orietation or the vegetation incorporation. The interaction between landscape and building, the visual component, the effectiveness and clarity of the constructive solutions and the use of place conditions are traits of Francesc Mitjan’s architecture, which are emphasized in these projects in a highlighted way
