Abstract

The brewing industry presents a big problem with the large quantities of waste that they emit, more specifically this project focuses on the brewing effluents and how to reduce its pollution with a biological method to be able to treat the wastewater. More specifically, using the microalgae Scenedesmus sp. which is known for its adaptability and resilience. The treatment of wastewater with microalgae is a new treatment that produces water with less pollutants and a production of microalgae that can be reused for different uses, such as food or biofuels. In this work, first a control experiment was carried out followed by an experiment with effluent. In both experiments, the growth of the biomass and the capacity to eliminate nutrients (DQO, anions, TOC and ammonia) have been analysed and it has been shown that Scenedesmus sp. is effective in eliminating them.
