Abstract

Este trabajo final de grado examina el Mercado de Algeciras de Eduardo Torroja desde una perspectiva paramétrica contemporánea. Aunque Torroja trabajó en una era pre-digital, sus estructuras muestran una lógica computacional implícita basada en la experimentación física, la intuición geométrica y la eficiencia material. A través de herramientas digitales como Grasshopper y análisis de cargas con Karamba, el proyecto reinterpreta el comportamiento estructural del mercado, revelando su elegancia geométrica y rendimiento ambiental. La investigación une metodologías históricas y computacionales, demostrando cómo el legado de Torroja puede ofrecer claves valiosas para la arquitectura sostenible y optimizada del presente.

Aquest treball final de grau analitza el Mercat d’Algesires d’Eduardo Torroja des d’una perspectiva paramètrica contemporània. Tot i operar en una època pre-digital, les seves estructures manifesten una lògica computacional implícita basada en models físics, intuïció geomètrica i eficiència material. Mitjançant eines digitals com Grasshopper i anàlisi de càrregues amb Karamba, el projecte reinterpreta el comportament estructural del mercat, posant en relleu la seva elegància geomètrica i el rendiment ambiental. El treball estableix un pont entre la metodologia històrica i computacional, mostrant com l’herència de Torroja pot informar l’arquitectura sostenible i optimitzada actual.

This thesis explores Eduardo Torroja’s Algeciras Market Hall from a contemporary parametric perspective. Though Torroja designed in a pre-digital era, his structures reveal an implicit computational logic, grounded in physical modeling, geometric intuition, and material efficiency. Through digital tools such as Grasshopper and load analysis with Karamba, the project reinterprets the structural behavior of the Market Hall, revealing its geometrical elegance and environmental performance. The work bridges historical and computational methodologies, demonstrating how Torroja’s legacy offers valuable insights for today’s sustainable and form-optimized architecture.
