This thesis analyzes the interconnection between the main board and the communication board in a smart meter system. The objective is to improve antenna performance, mainly at low frequencies, by analyzing how the connection between both two ground planes affects radiation efficiency and impedance matching. The process starts with the study of surface currents and electromagnetic simulations of different PCB configurations to identify the optimal connection points. Once the most promising configurations were found, test boards were developed using Altium and measured in the laboratory, comparing simulation and experimental results. The results show that the interconnection significantly affects the antenna behavior, especially at low frequencies. It is also demonstrated that adding a 100 nH choke inductor between boards helps to isolate them and improve efficiency. Finally, the recommended configurations for practical implementation are proposed.
