Este trabajo de fin de grado explora y analiza el desarrollo de la participación femenina en el campo de la arquitectura en Finlandia y en los países nórdicos, abordando tanto los obstáculos históricos como los logros contemporáneos. Se realiza un recorrido desde los primeros intentos de inclusión de las mujeres en la arquitectura y la edificación en los siglos XVII y XVIII, pasando por el papel que adquirieron en los siglos XIX y XX, hasta el contexto actual de sus contribuciones. A través de un enfoque que combina análisis histórico, social y profesional, el estudio examina la evolución del papel de la mujer en una sociedad marcada por tradiciones y estructuras mayoritariamente masculinas. Se destaca la fundación de la asociación Architecta como un símbolo del esfuerzo colectivo de arquitectas para obtener visibilidad y apoyo en el sector. Asimismo, el trabajo examina la trayectoria y los desafíos que enfrentaron arquitectas finlandesas de diferentes tiempos y tradiciones que, a pesar de su talento, trabajaron a menudo bajo la sombra de sus maridos. Entre ellas, Signe Hornborg, reconocida como la primera mujer arquitecta oficialmente acreditada en Finlandia; Wivi Lönn, visionaria en la arquitectura contemporánea; Pirkko-Liisa Schulman, destacada en el diseño urbano sostenible, y otras figuras que han aportado una perspectiva única a la arquitectura finlandesa. Este trabajo no documenta sus logros, sino que más bien ofrece una guía para futuras investigaciones sobre el papel de las mujeres en la arquitectura nórdica. La investigación busca inspirar a otros estudiantes y profesionales a profundizar en un campo aún en crecimiento y lleno de historias de superación, con la esperanza de contribuir a una apreciación más equitativa e inclusiva en el mundo de la arquitectura.

This final degree project explores and analyzes the development of female participation in the field of architecture in Finland and the Nordic countries, addressing both historical obstacles and contemporary achievements. A journey is made from the first attempts to include women in architecture and building in the 17th and 18th centuries, through the role they acquired in the 19th and 20th centuries, to the current context of their contributions. Through an approach that combines historical, social and professional analysis, the study examines the evolution of the role of women in a society marked by predominantly male traditions and structures. The founding of the Architecta’s association stands out as a symbol of the collective effort of female architects to obtain visibility and support in the sector. Likewise, the work examines the trajectory and challenges faced by Finnish architects from different times and traditions who, despite their talent, often worked under the shadow of their husbands. Among them, Signe Hornborg, recognized as the first officially accredited woman architect in Finland; Wivi Lönn, visionary in contemporary architecture; Pirkko-Liisa Schulman, prominent in sustainable urban design, and other figures who have brought a unique perspective to Finnish architecture. This work does not document their achievements, but rather offers a guide for future research on the role of women in Nordic architecture. The research seeks to inspire other students and professionals to delve deeper into a field that is still growing and full of stories of improvement, with the hope of contributing to a more equitable and inclusive appreciation in the world of architecture.
