Análisis de la autosuficiencia energética de España

Abstract

The goal of this undergraduate thesis is to take a deep dive into the topic of energy self-sufficiency in Spain from 1990 to 2022, and to explore how this situation might change in various future scenarios. To achieve this, we’ll be using the Spanish energy balance data from 1990 to 2022, which we’ve gathered from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, and calculated using the methodology endorsed by EUROSTAT (the Statistical Office of the European Union). This database will not only help us calculate self-sufficiency during and after this period, but it will also shed light on how it has changed over time and what other key factors need to evolve for selfsufficiency to improve. Moreover, it will clarify the reasons behind the shifts in self-sufficiency and identify which energy sources are contributing to the issue. We’ll employ various statistical methods to extract this information from the database, and all calculations will be accessible to readers in the annex, within the same Microsoft Excel file where they were conducted. However, you don’t need to grasp these methods to appreciate the reading. In short, this thesis aims to provide readers with a clear understanding of the energy self-sufficiency challenge, how we arrived at the current situation, and what steps are necessary to address it.
