Desvestir el baño es abrir la puerta a una lectura arquitectónica que comienza en lo más íntimo. El espacio más vinculado al cuerpo y a la vulnerabilidad es también aquel que a menudo ha sido relegado a la periferia del proyecto. Pero, ¿qué ocurre cuando el baño ocupa el centro de una casa? En la Casa Orinda, el baño aparece en el corazón de la vivienda, allí donde tradicionalmente esperamos encontrar la vida social, la luz o el silencio. Este gesto arquitectónico —insólito pero deliberado— activa una serie de preguntas que atraviesan el proyecto. A partir de esta anomalía espacial, el trabajo traza un recorrido por diversas arquitecturas de distintas épocas, poniendo el foco en la posición y la relevancia simbólica y funcional del baño. Más allá de su condición utilitaria, el baño se revela como un espacio generador de significado: un lugar donde el cuerpo se encuentra con la arquitectura y se redefine la intimidad. Su calidad y ubicación son, así, indicadores clave de cómo habitamos, sentimos y compartimos el espacio.

Undressing the bathroom is to open the door to an architectural reading that begins in the most intimate space. The area most closely tied to the body and vulnerability is also the one most often relegated to the periphery of architectural projects. But what happens when the bathroom takes center stage in a house? In the Orinda House, the bathroom appears at the heart of the dwelling—where we would traditionally expect to find social life, light, or silence. This architectural gesture —unexpected yet deliberate— sets in motion a series of questions that run through the project. From this spatial anomaly, the work traces a journey through various architectures from different periods, focusing on the symbolic and functional relevance of the bathroom’s position. Beyond its utilitarian nature, the bathroom reveals itself as a space that generates meaning: a place where the body meets architecture and intimacy is redefined. Its quality and placement are, thus, key indicators of how we inhabit, perceive, and share space.

L’espai més associat al cos i a la vulnerabilitat és també aquell que sovint ha estat relegat a la perifèria del projecte. Però, què passa quan el lavabo ocupa el centre d’una casa? A la Casa Orinda, el bany apareix en el cor de l’habitatge, allà on tradicionalment esperem trobar la vida social, la llum, o el silenci. Aquest gest arquitectònic —insòlit però deliberat— activa una sèrie de preguntes que travessen el projecte. A partir d’aquesta anomalia espacial, el treball traça un recorregut per diverses arquitectures de diferents èpoques, posant el focus en la posició i la rellevància simbòlica i funcional del lavabo. Més enllà de la seva condició utilitària, el lavabo es revela com a espai generador de significat: un lloc on el cos es troba amb l’arquitectura i es redefineix la intimitat. La seva qualitat i ubicació són, així, indicadors clau de com habitem, sentim i compartim l’espai.
